Success Stories of The Owner

Hi, I am Richard (Rich) Burdick.  I am the owner of ICS.  I started working in IT in 1995, and have done everything from show people how to turn their computer on to programming HP System Insight Manager to monitor 320 servers at Oregon Department of Transprotation (ODOT).  I am going to tell you about three jobs where following through to fix underlying problems made the systems more reliable.

At Nike Retail IT, I oversaw all maintenance activities for networked devices and processes that ran on them for 100 locations nationwide, in a $700 million business with over 3500 users.   I was the final point of escalation which meant that if I didn’t fix the problem, I might find the Director of Nike Retail standing in my cube.

At the City of Newberg, I supported all users and the entire IT infra-structure.  I improved the performance and reliability of servers and work-stations through aggressive maintenance.  In addition, I designed, developed and deployed a backup system for the City.

At ODOT, I managed maintenance of 320 servers during a move of over 200 of them from the Revenue Building to the SDC.  I set up monitoring software and proactively maintained the systems, looking for problems and fixing them before they caused outages.

I am especially proud of an e-mail that Dawn Wilson, Sr. Paralegal at the City of Newberg, sent to me thanking me for fixing all the computers on the third floor of City Hall, with a CC to the Mayor, City Manager, and my Manager.

In summing up, every system I have worked on, has become more reliable through aggressive and proactive maintenance and follow through.
